Becoming a Youth Official
BOY YOUTH OFFICIALS - 2026 GUIDELINES
To become certified in 2026, you must attend two 4 hour classroom training sessions, pass the USA Lacrosse certification exam and attend an on-field training session. For 2026, we will be running the classroom sessions virtually, on Sunday, February 23rd and Sunday March 2nd from 11:30-3:30. Field training will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 1-5:00 at Waunakee High School in the Madison area.
The requirements for being a boys youth lacrosse official for 2026 are:
1) Be at least a sophomore in high school
2) Be an active USA Lacrosse member
3) Attend 8 hours of virtual classroom instruction
4) Complete all virtual instruction material and the USA lacrosse youth boys online exam (50 questions)
5) Attend an on-field training session
6) Pay the WILOA training/scheduling fees (yet to be determined, but no higher than $45) before May 1st
If you are interested in becoming an official for 2026, you must respond to me by February 20th with the following information:
Your name, email (must be your unique email and not used by anyone else with a USA lacrosse membership), year in school, telephone number and USA lacrosse number. Returning officials need only send along their interest to officiate.
If you can’t make one of the training dates above, please contact Jeremy Sullivan (malabyloc@gmail.com) for possible alternative training dates/times offered by the Wisconsin Lacrosse Federation.
Girls Youth Official - 2026 Guidelines
New Officials
The requirements for officiating girls’ youth lacrosse games are as follows:
1) Attend both online training sessions:
- Sunday, March 7th 2026, 4-6:30pm (video: https://youtu.be/bD735SakDh4)
- Sunday, March 15th, 2026, 4-6:30pm (video: https://youtu.be/TiigbPZ2HBA)
2) Attend an on-field training session:
- Field training will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 8:30-1:00 at Waunakee High School in the Madison area.
3) Be at least a sophomore in high school
4) Be an active USA Lacrosse member
5) Pass the on-line USA Lacrosse official's certification exams
Returning Officials
Same as above, but only need to attend second online session (March 15th) and the on-field training evaluation.
As a US Lacrosse Youth Official, you are required to complete and pass the 2025 Youth Rules Test via the US Lacrosse site. A grade of 90% will be required to be eligible to officiate games under US Lacrosse.
Failure to meet any of the outlined requirements will result in the inability to officiate games during the 2025 season.
