Introduction to Badgerland Lacrosse Association

The primary purpose of Badgerland Lacrosse (BLA) is to promote the game of lacrosse in a safe and sportsmanlike environment.  BLA wants kids to grow up playing a game of speed, position, and finesse, rather than physical intimidation. The goal is to conduct all our activities in a manner that will set an example of good sportsmanship and friendly competition for our young players.

Teams:

Varsity – Must be an adult with Level II certification to officiate


Junior Varsity– Must be an adult with Level II certification to officiate


Youth Teams – 4 divisions – Must be at least a sophomore in high school to officiate and Level 1 certified

14U, 12U, 10U, 8U


Expectations:

  • Get proper US Lacrosse Membership ($55, $35 if you are not an adult. Player membership counts, just need to add the Official category to your membership):
    • All new and returning officials must be members of US Lacrosse with the “official” membership classification for insurance and liability purposes. You should receive a 2018 NFHS Rule Book with your membership renewal.
    • If you are a current US Lacrosse member as an official (expiration date 9/30/18), no action is required.
    • If you are a current US Lacrosse member, but not as an official, contact US Lacrosse at   410-235-6882 ext. 102 or at membership@uslacrosse.org to change your status. There is no additional fee for this.
    • If you are not a US Lacrosse member, you must join as an official: go to www.uslacrosse.org/membership.

 

  • Join the Wisconsin Lacrosse Officials Association (WILOA) $45 is equal to one youth game fee, payment made at the first training class.

 

  • Complete Level 1 and/or Level 2 classroom and on-field training. Level 3 for advanced officials.

 


    • Striped, collared shirt (pocket preferable)

o   Whistle (FOX40) finger

o   Black Shorts, no logos

o   Black shoes, low socks

o   Yellow Flag


·         High School officials must also have a black hat with white piping; shorts must have belt loops, belt, timer, a second flag.

The Season

  • BLA games scheduled April through end of May
  • High school playoffs and Youth festivals are scheduled after Memorial Day.
  • We use ArbiterSports for officials scheduling. Request invitation to join if needed. Become familiar with it.
  • Youth games are scheduled Saturdays and Sundays, typically.

Game Fees:

  • Varsity $70, $65 for 3-man mechanics
  • JV $55
  • Youth
    • 14U, 12U and 10U 2-man $45
    • 12U and 10U 1-man $70
    • 8U 1-man $45

  • If you have anything pertinent to officiating lacrosse or for the league, please present it in electronic form to Jeremy Sullivan or Dave Wollin  
  • Cell phone texting is the number one choice for last minute schedule changes or cancellations. Make sure it is entered into Arbiter.

  • To ensure the safety of all participants (players, coaches, bench personnel, officials, fans)
  • To promote fair play and sportsmanship
  • To consider the level of play and respond accordingly when officiating
  • To encourage the growth of the sport and to honor the game
